Got up this morning and decided to try and load some of the
pictures to Picasa and see if that would be a faster way to move them to the
blog later. It did work, I was able to
get around 40 loaded, I tried to pick the ones that represented the best of
what we have seen. We have seen soooo
much though that it was hard to choose.
Charlie went out to get our fishing licenses and some Canadian Moolah –
and when he came back, he said, we were an hour earlier than we thought. So when we got up at 6:50 this morning, it
was really 5:50…. That was sneaky…. So none of the stores or banks were open
when he went. I was finished with the
pics, and so we went back out together.
The banks here do not open until 9:30 so we had some time to
kill. The banks were right on the corner
of the “0” mile post, so we took my picture standing under it.
When they opened, we converted some cash and then went and bought our fishing license. The choices were 10 days or a whole year, and there was only about 30 dollars difference, and since we do not know how long we will be in Canada, or how long we will be in this country as we are driving back, we decided to go ahead and get the year one. So now we can drive up and fish in British Columbia anytime we want for the next 12 months. . .

It is raining again, and there is mud everywhere, I am not
exaggerating, everywhere… and the people here just seem to live with it – there
are some hardy people up here. We headed
out around 10:30, I drove Didi because the Mile post had warned us of some
steep grades and we were not really going that far today. I enjoyed the drive and Charlie and I could
talk to each other because I had packed a pair of walkie talkies. ; )
I cannot get over the expanse of this country – everything
is HUGE. The forests we drove through
and are still driving through tomorrow, just go on and on and on, for as far as
you can see – The trees are mostly evergreens and firs, and some are dying and
they are shades of browns and sorta orange and it almost looks like it is the
Fall and the leaves are changing. I
tried to take some pictures, but I am sure the camera will not do this area
justice.
And the sky – truthfully ever since we have been in the
northern part of the U.S. and certainly up here, the clouds are magnificent –
they are always around and they stretch out forever – huge cumulus clouds, they
are breathtaking to look at. Sometimes I
don’t know which is more amazing the landscape or the sky.
When we stopped for gas, a little girl came riding up in a
big Polaris Razor – just whipped it up to the front of the store, and when I
looked again, she was tiny. I saw her
when I went in the store and told her what a good driver she was and asked her
age, she was 9! Her mom who owned the
store, said she drives it everywhere – she certainly looked liked she knew what
she was doing.
The other thing I noticed today is their electricity poles
that run along the highway, are all green.
They fade into the tree line due to their color, thought that was
interesting….
Stopped for the night at the Sakanni RV and Camp
ground. The Mile post said it was in the
1949 version of that publication – so it has been here for a long time!
Everything around it is – yep you guessed it, wet and muddy, but the river is
50 yards away and the mountains are beautiful. I try to appreciate the view
from our front window wherever we stop, because it is such a treat.
We walked down the river and fished for a
bit, but it was really too muddy to catch anything. So we drove down the
highway and found a smaller river and fished there for a bit. No luck, but it was fun being out there.
When we got back, Charlie built a great fire, and I cooked
us some tortilla soup. It had been a
cool and rainy day and I thought it would warm our belly’s. : ) It did, it was
warm and filling. I then headed over to
the showers, and they were rustic, sort of like a camp shower, but the water
pressure was awesome and the water was hot, so I was in heaven.
There is wireless here, but it is over at the store, on the
porch, and the mosquitoes have decided to show up tonight, and I am not willing
to sit over there and get bitten… so I am going to type this and then cut and
paste it later.
The other big news we got today is we heard Enzo had lost a
tooth! Wow! Hope the tooth fairy was very good to him. :
)
Tomorrow we are going to try and get close to the Laird Hot
Springs – I am really looking forward to that.
Soaking in a natural hot spring sounds delightful to me.
