YELLOWSTONE!!!!!
Off after a breakfast of cream of wheat. (thought about all the mornings Mom made that for me and then I made it for the kids.) Plan to drive all the way to Gardinier, MT. today and go to see Yellowstone tomorrow. Still lots of wind, but again Charlie and Bessie did well. Saw tons of antelope on the hills as we were driving. Funny how most of the time they are alone. Saw some playing though so I guess this really is where the deer and the antelope play..... : )
Stopped at a rest area that had wifi! So posted some blogs I had already written. As soon as I hit publish on the last one, my computer died. No clue except the battery is gone, but I had it plugged in, so seems like the battery should not matter. Not happy though since most of my pics are on there. I have been leaving them on the camera's card too, guess that was a good thing. So far I have taken 4 GB of pictures...
We reached Gardinier fairly early - Charlie made good time. Stopped for gas and filled up the car so she would be ready for Yellowstone. There was a man in front of us who had already finished pumping his gas before we started and 15 minutes later even I was getting frustrated with waiting to get out ( he was blocking us) so I went in and he was checking out. Not sure what he had been doing, but thought it a rather long time to block someone in. I had googled on my phone the best way for an RV to go to Yellowstone, hoping we would avoid the steep inclines, and it said take the North entrance which is also the original entrance. It worked out perfectly.
The views were something hard to describe. Huge mountains on each side, some covered in snow, grassy meadows with steams running through them. Elk and antelope just wandering around in some of the fields - just breathtaking. I know I keep saying that, but it just gets prettier and prettier. We found an RV park online with good reviews, that had a vacancy, so we stayed there. Our front window has a view of the mountains and they have clean showers, and wifi! And a place to do laundry. Rocky Mountain RV Park.
I started dinner and Charlie did the laundry. He finished just as dinner was ready and we had salmon patties, seasoned green beans, beets and fried potatoes with onion. Thought Charlie needed and deserved a good dinner after driving all day. It turned out very well. We got there early enough to head into the park so after talking to a very helpful lady at the information center, we did. Once again, Charlie got us in free with his Golden Pass. (Thanks for that tip, Grandpa.) We stopped and toured Mammoth Hot Springs, which had lots of steps and wore me out... But it gave us a good workout.
Amazing hot, somewhat stinky (sulphur) water.
Charlie touched some and rubbed it on his hands. I obeyed the signs and did not mess with it. I was also too short to reach it .....
We then drove through the center of Yellowstone and saw 4 elk just hanging out on the center lawn. Just showing off, not bothered by the hoards of people taking their picture.
As we drove further in the park, we again could not believe the scenery and the wildlife. We saw big horn sheep, with babies, and a WOLF! Antelope, tons of elk, and many more bison than Custer Park had.
Again, all in the wild going where they wanted, when they wanted. Got back around 10:00, I was beat, but took a hot shower in their very clean stone bathrooms, and worked on some posts. I will be doing them on my iPad, and I have noticed that it does not keep my formatting, nor tell me when I have a typo once I move on in typing... So I will try to retread them before sending, but since I usually write at night after a long day, just ignore any misspellings or typos. : ). Which if you ever get texts from me you have already learned to do. Will have to figure out the picture part.... Tomorrow we will go back to Yellowstone for more sightseeing.
