Up and out by 5:00 - and TONS and TONS of fish. Charlie said not as many as the other day, but there was really never a time when there were not at least 15 to 25 fish swimming by us, and we were there about 2 hours. We were back with our limit cleaned and in the fridge by 8:00 -
At one point we had a grizzly bear on one side of the river ( where we pull our fish in) and a black bear on the other ( where we walk down to the river) they both ended up walking down the boardwalk at one point or another, and we just went from one side to the other trying to avoid them. I
would have been funny if they had been tame bears. As it was, they were the best to be stuck between, we just yelled at the black bear when it walked into our fish hole and shooed it off. Thank goodness it was not the mother bear and her two cubs, that would have been hard to maneuver - they sometimes separate and we do not know where the cubs are.
We went back to the river tonight to let Charlie try out a longer rod he had with him. Most folks here are fishing with a fly rod - and they are a good foot or two longer than the rods we are using. While there, this group of women came down and were trying to cross the river and just sorta stopped midway. Charlie told them where the shallow part was, and that they could cross there - one of the ladies said " I am wearing my husband's boots and I am not sure I can make it across." Charlie said he would help them if they would like, but then added " Let this be a lesson for you all to remember - it is harder than you thought to fill your husbands boots." It was so funny - I thought it was pretty witty, and quick and the women loved it, they just laughed and laughed. And eventually walked on over..... It was a perfect "Charlieism" quip.
