Charlie got up to fish today, but I decided to stay in and rest. It was cold and rainy, and seemed wise to stay warm and dry. Charlie came back saying that there were so many fish in the river that it was solid gray - they were bumping into his legs! I had seen the number going through the weir was high about 10 days ago, so expected it at some point -but wow! that is a lot of fish.
It did not take long for him to catch his limit, he said they were pulling fish in right and left down there. At one point he turned around to walk toward the bank and there were 50 or more fish swimming behind where he had been fishing.
I was feeling better by mid morning, and we drove to Soldotna and took more fish in to be processed. We are up to 43 pounds now - took another 14. 38 pounds in today. Spent most of the day running errands and doing a bit of needed shopping.
By the end of the day, I was feeling much better. I hate I missed seeing the fish, but I think it was a wise decision to stay in this morning.
I know our family and friends in the lower 48 are experiencing a heat wave and many a drought, but it has not gotten out of the 50's here, and it rains a bit almost every day - it is hard to imagine what it is like back home. We live in sweatshirts, layers, and for me, flannel lined jeans.
