Lazy morning then more fishing. Spent the afternoon on the river. Charlie is getting pretty good at this new style of fishing - but still no fish. He did see a fish in the water today though, so that is a good thing. I have learned how to use an open reel, and I think Charlie is impressed and surprised.
Saw several more eagles and then later in the afternoon we saw a black bear come down to the water - across from where we were - so no concern on our part. He was so graceful and agile. He only stayed for a few minutes and then skitted up the hill.
One thing we did learn is that Alaska has outlawed felt soled waders - umm which is a problem since that is what we have... Charlie tried taking them off tonight, but is afraid he will end up poking a hole in them, so we are just going to have to buy some more that have rubber soles. We learned this from some men who were getting ready to go fishing today - one of them said he has been fined a couple times already for wearing them, so he has given them up. Alaska is concerned about the spread of algae and " rock snot" . Look it up - the name is very appropriate. I looked it up tonight just to confirm what they told us.... we will be shopping on the way to Denali.
Tonight we had smoked salmon pasta. It too turned out pretty good. ; )
On a last note, Happy Half Birthday to Michael! To Meg and Joe - have fun in Italy - to those in Pulaski, Blacksburg, and WV - hope you are safe in all the storms I have heard about - they sound rather scary - To my neighbors, enjoy the beach, Jan you have earned it this year! and the backpack you gave me has been awesome to fish with. Happy 1 month anniversary to Mandy and Dan, and good travels to Caroline and Booker!
Not sure when we will be back on, but right now I am using the wireless connection we brought with us - so we are happy about that. If it works other places we will be ecstatic!
Interesting reading about the rock snot...had to look it up. It is an issue in some rivers in western Virginia, the Smith and the Jackson. How far north will you travel? Will you get to go out in the ocean somewhere to see the whales? Love the beach but jealous of your travel adventures! Love ya!
ReplyDeleteHave enjoyed reading the updates. All is well here. Tell Grandpa the kids say hey. Take care.
