We decided to stay here and fish today and go to Homer tomorrow. We drove into the campground, and found out that we can stay in the overflow for 4 bucks a night - I am liking that, and pay 5 to drive into the campground and fish. Once again, the Golden Pass that Charlie has is proving to be WELL worth the 30 dollars it cost us. If any of you are going to travel, and are 62 or over, check it out - it has gotten us in many parks free and campgrounds and other sites for half the cost, often saving us 25 dollars at a time. Awesome! : )
Yesterday the Wildlife center did not have Beluga Whales, it actually was rather disappointing, but maybe my expectations were just too high... it was educational though and we did get to see sea lions and otters, and a HUGE octopus.
Today we fished on the Russian river - it was so pretty. They have a boardwalk built along the bank to save the vegetation, and you have about 50 steps to go down ( and later back up) to get there. It is very easy to get around down by the water that way though, and they have various sites where there are metal steps that go a few steps down to the water. Both Charlie and I are getting better at walking in the swift water, but there are times when I still look like I am walking on a tight rope. : ) But so far, neither or us have fallen in the water...
Fished from about 9 - 3 and then came back and took a nap. This free time to do what you want is an amazingly nice thing - I think the Europeans have the right idea of taking a break in the middle of the day and then getting back up and finishing your day.
We saw several bald eagles on the river today - often they were in pairs, so I am thinking it must be mating season for them. They are so regal to watch. I also saw a Golden eagle and got a great video of it taking a bath in the river - I had never seen that before.
We saw no bears, but they say there is a mother bear and two cubs around here that we need to be aware of, so we are on the look out every time we go out.
Charlie worked on our walking sticks tonight and finished them, I think he is going to make a place for a handle / cord tomorrow. They look great!
For supper tonight I made pasta with a cream sauce and artichokes, capers, and grilled chicken. We had some of the sourdough bread left, so we ate that as well. The meal turned out very well I thought. I think Joe would have approved. : )
Cheri your descriptions are great, clear and easy to "see" what you are doing! What fun to watch the wildlife and comment on their behavior. This morning is Monday at Pine Knolls Shore before the sun comes up, low humidity after a whopping thunderstorm last evening, damndest light show since I saw Steppenwolf in 1972! I am loving your pictures and frequently put them on a slideshow and let them run for an hour!. Thanks. Thinking of you [and David and Caroline...spoke to DTB last night, they are in B'ham.] All our love...Buz, Jan, Rich, Lou, Corey and Taylor
